The Social Housing Fraud Act 2013 has been recently introduced to tackle housing fraud.
To try and identify any tenancy fraud that might be happening in our homes, our Neighbourhood Housing Officers regularly carry out ‘tenancy audits’ when they carry out checks to ensure the correct person is living in the property.
So if you are not using your home as your only and principle home and allow someone else to live in it and dishonestly obtain rent, you may be liable for a fine of up to £50,000 or 2 years imprisonment.
We will seek to recover possession of the property if we discover tenancy fraud.
Remember; if you have a home that you do not need or do not live in, you are breaking the law and depriving someone else of a much needed home!
If you suspect tenancy fraud, you can report it by calling us on:
Bridgnorth: 01746 713212
Oswestry: 01691 677369
or by emailing: email@example.com
Your report will be treated in the strictest confidence and can be given anonymously.
