We are delighted to announce that contractors E Manton Ltd have begun work on 13 new homes at Bowling Green Lane, Albrighton.

On Thursday 31st January a ‘Breaking Ground’ event was held to celebrate the beginning of the work on site at Bowling Green Lane. Attendees included our Managing Director Sue Adams, E Manton Ltd Director Dave Disney, Councillor and Deputy Portfolio Holder for Housing Dean Carroll, Area Panel Member George Evans, Housing Officer for Albrighton Richard Wood and our Development Manager Jason O’Donoghue.  Sue Adams, Councillor Carroll and Mr Disney broke ground together with a wonderful, ceremonial spade from E Manton Ltd.

The work is scheduled to go on for around 42 weeks meaning a winter finish is expected. The new homes will include two 3 bed homes and 11 two bed homes (All properties will benefit from two parking spaces) which will be available for affordable rent and four of the properties will be available to buy under Shared Ownership.

Shared Ownership is a fantastic, affordable opportunity for people to get a foot on the property ladder. It allows them to buy a share in a brand new leasehold property on a part-buy, part-rent basis. The bigger the share they buy the less rent you have to pay. You can read more here on our website, just type 'Shared Ownership' into the search bar above

We are committed to doing our bit in helping to solve the heavily publicised 'Housing Crisis' in which a cross party report recently published in The Guardian newspaper says 'More than 3m new social homes are needed in the next 20 years' The ground breaking event signals a continuance in our commitment to building new council homes often on land the Council already own. Recent government changes now gives us access to increased funding to build more affordable homes in Shropshire.

Sue Adams, Managing Director, talked of the project and its potential impact “We currently manage 278 Council properties in Albrighton and this development is extremely important in meeting the housing needs of the area. Shropshire in its entirety has a waiting list of around 5,300 households and Albrighton is recognised as a high demand area with around 100 households registered as requiring housing. We look forward to working alongside Shropshire Council in the near future”

Once ready, they will be advertised on Shropshire HomePoint for potential tenants to bid on.
