With the Summer Bank Holiday just around the corner, many of us are planning to enjoy the long weekend with friends, family, and a barbeque. Whether you're grilling in the garden or heading to a local park, it's important to keep safety front of mind.

Here are some essential tips to help you BBQ safely this weekend:

  • Location matters – Always set up your BBQ well away from buildings, fences, sheds, and overhanging trees. Never use a BBQ indoors or on a balcony.
  • Stay alert – Never leave your BBQ unattended, especially if children or pets are nearby.
  • Be prepared – Keep a bucket of water, sand, or a fire extinguisher close by in case of emergencies.
  • Cool down safely – Let your BBQ cool completely before disposing of ashes. Use a metal container and never pour ashes directly into bins.
  • Check your equipment – If you're using a gas BBQ, inspect hoses and connections before lighting.

STAR Housing encourages all customers to enjoy the bank holiday responsibly. If you have any safety concerns about your property, please contact us before the weekend.

Please note: Our office will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August. We’ll be operating our normal out-of-hours service during this time, and will be back as usual on Tuesday, 26th August.

Wishing you a safe and sunny bank holiday from all of us at STAR Housing!
