This week is Rural Housing Week, an opportunity to celebrate the importance of affordable housing in helping rural communities thrive and ensuring people can continue to live and work in the places they call home.
At STAR Housing, we manage 4,097 homes across Shropshire’s towns, villages and rural communities. From larger market towns to some of the county’s most rural locations, we’re proud to provide safe, affordable homes for thousands of customers across the county.
As part of Rural Housing Week, we’re currently carrying out The Big Check In, a county-wide programme of doorstep visits and community drop-in events designed to give every customer the opportunity to speak with us directly. Our aim is simple: to listen, learn and understand how we can continue to improve our services for the people who live in our homes.
Throughout the week, colleagues from across STAR Housing are visiting homes across Shropshire to talk to customers about how things are going, check contact details are up to date, answer questions and hear feedback about the services we provide. We’re also asking customers how they would like us to communicate with them in the future, helping us make sure we share information in the ways that work best for them.
While many housing events naturally take place in larger towns, Rural Housing Week is a reminder that many customers live in smaller villages and rural communities where opportunities to meet housing providers face to face can be less common. That’s one of the reasons The Big Check In is so important. By visiting every home and holding drop-in events in communities across Shropshire, we’re making sure everyone has the opportunity to have their say, no matter where they live.
Today, we met customers at our drop-in sessions in Highley and Bridgnorth and have already had some fantastic conversations. We’ve heard what’s working well, listened to ideas for improvement and answered questions about our services. We’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to speak to us so far and help shape the future of STAR Housing.
The Big Check In will continue throughout the week, with more doorstep visits taking place across our neighbourhoods. If we’re unable to speak to you when we visit, we’ll leave information explaining how you can still share your views with us.
