Aid and Adaptations

Making your home suitable for you.

At STAR Housing, we understand that everyone has different housing needs. Wherever possible, we work with our partners to help make your home more suitable, either through adaptations or by helping you move to more appropriate accommodation, such as a bungalow or ground floor flat.

Major Adaptations

Larger works such as:

  • Level access showers
  • External ramps
  • Widening doorways
  • Adapted kitchens
  • Stairlifts

You must be referred (or self-refer) to Social Care for an assessment by an Occupational Therapist.

Call People to People (Shropshire Council) on 0345 678 9044 to request an assessment.

Requests are considered only if the person with a disability (or their partner) is the tenant or a permanent member of the household. Full details are available in our policy: Enabling Tenants to Live Independently in their Home

We review the assessment and recommendations. Approval is based on your referral banding, current property type, and long-term suitability.

If a suitable adapted property is available, your Neighbourhood Housing Officer may discuss a move.
