Financial Support

Local Welfare Provision

If you’re struggling to cover essential living costs, like food, energy bills, or household items, the Shropshire Council Welfare Support Team may be able to help with short-term financial support.

This support is available through local schemes such as:

  • Local Support and Prevention Fund (LSPF)
  • Household Support Fund

These funds are designed to help people in crisis, support families under pressure, and assist vulnerable residents to stay safe and settled in their communities.

Financial Support from Your Energy Provider

If you’re in debt with your energy supplier, you may be able to get help through a charitable grant to reduce or clear what you owe.

Many energy companies offer support funds for their customers. Here are some of the main ones:

*British Gas Energy Trust grants are available to everybody, you don’t need to be a British Gas customer to apply.

Financial Support from Charitable Organisations

If you’re facing financial difficulties, you might be eligible for a charitable grant. These grants are designed to help people in need, and you don’t have to pay them back. Charities offer support for a range of needs, including:

  • Help with energy bills
  • Essential household items
  • Rent arrears or emergency costs
  • Support for carers, disabled people, or those with long-term health conditions

Each charity has its own criteria, so it’s worth checking what’s available based on your situation.
