Amending Your Tenancy

Making changes to Your Tenancy

We understand that life changes, and sometimes your tenancy needs to change with it. Whether you’re adding a partner, removing a joint tenant, or updating who lives in your household, we’ll guide you through each step.

Before You Start

  • Only the lead tenant can submit changes
  • Amendments may be refused if you have rent arrears
  • You’ll need supporting documents
  • Submitting a form means you agree to our privacy info

Types of Tenancy Amendments

Add a Partner to Your Tenancy

If you’ve married or entered a civil partnership, you can request to add your partner. Submit a Tenancy Amendment Form or request through the Tenant Portal. We’ll review your request in line with your tenancy agreement.

Remove a Joint Tenant

If a joint tenant has moved out, we’ll need either a court order or their written consent (Assignment of Tenancy). Submit the form below and we’ll contact you to explain the next steps. Independent legal advice is recommended.

Take Over a Tenancy

If your partner has ended the tenancy and you wish to stay, we’ll assess this individually based on your circumstances such as whether children live in the home and the type of tenancy. Complete the form below and we’ll get in touch.

Adding a Relative to the Tenancy

We don’t usually add relatives unless there are exceptional circumstances. Contact your Neighbourhood Housing Officer to discuss. Submit the Tenancy Amendment Form after speaking with us.

Rent Arrears and Amendments

If you have rent arrears, we may not approve tenancy amendments unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please contact us to speak with our Rents Team for advice.
