Between 13 October and 9 November 2025, Shropshire Council invited all tenants to share their views on proposed updates to the tenancy agreement. STAR Housing supported the consultation by sending each household a consultation pack and offering online, postal, email and in person drop-in options for giving feedback.
Thank you to everyone who took part and shared their feedback.

What the consultation covered
Tenants were asked for their views on several proposed updates:
- How rent is charged: We asked for feedback on moving from collecting rent over 48 weeks to collecting it over 52 weeks. This spreads payments evenly across the year. While this removes rent‑clear weeks, the weekly amount tenants pay becomes lower. The total yearly rent does not change.
- Clearer service charges: The proposed agreement brings all service charge information together in one place, so it is easier to understand what you pay for.
- General updates: The wording throughout the agreement has been reviewed to make it clearer, easier to read, and in line with current legislation and best practice.
A full breakdown of these changes is available on the results page.
Changes made following tenant feedback
Following the consultation, Section 3.4 (Repairs, Maintenance and Alterations) was updated to remove certain responsibilities from tenants.
This change is included in Appendix 1 of the letter sent to all households.
You can read more about this update on the summary page linked above.
What happens next
Shropshire Council approved the confirmed changes to the tenancy agreement on 26 February 2026, and a Preliminary Notice was issued to all tenants.
The next step is for a formal Notice of Variation to be issued to all tenants.
You won’t need to sign a new tenancy agreement — the updated agreement will automatically replace your current one. The updated tenancy agreement will come into force on Monday 6 April 2026.
If you receive Universal Credit, you may need to let the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) know about how your rent is charged. For more information, please visit the consultation results page or contact us for advice.
