Steps to Resolve a Neighbour Dispute

1

Talk it through

If you feel safe, speak to your neighbour or write a polite letter explaining how their behaviour is affecting you. Often, they may not be aware of the impact.

2

Contact STAR Housing

If the issue continues, let us know how you’ve tried to resolve it. We’ll assess the situation and discuss next steps with you.

3

Consider Mediation

Mediation is a confidential and impartial way to resolve disputes. It allows both parties to share their views and agree on a way forward. You don’t have to meet face-to-face, but doing so often leads to better outcomes.

4

Restorative Justice

In some cases, restorative justice may be appropriate. This process brings together those affected by conflict to find a positive resolution. Sessions are held in a safe, neutral space and led by trained staff.

We recommend mediation or restorative justice when the issue relates to lifestyle differences and there’s no breach of tenancy. If mediation is offered and declined without good reason, we may close the complaint.
