Boilers and heating systems are replaced when they reach the end of their lifecycle and are failing. In some cases we may change the type of heating you have for a more energy efficient type.

Gas Heating Upgrade

If you have been advised you are having a gas boiler installed or upgraded, we will fit a combination boiler which will heat your water on demand. your heating can be set via a programmer.

Oil Heating

If you have been advised you are having an oil boiler installed, we will fit a system boiler a programmer and an immersion tank to heat your water.

Air Source Heat Pump

These are more frequently being fitted in rural areas as a more energy efficient system.

An engineer will provide a full demonstration of how to operate the new system.

We will provide you with a simple written instruction guide to your new heating system and also a DVD instruction guide

What do we expect you to do?

The Surveyor will talk to you in detail about the installation during their survey. They will answer any questions you may have. Generally the Surveyor will ask you to do the following prior to the installation:-

  • Remove all breakables from the areas in which the engineers will be working.
  • Remove any furniture from the areas in which the engineers will be working. If you are unable to physically do this then please highlight this to the surveyor.
  • Remove any 1st floor laminate flooring to allow access to the floorboards underneath. Unfortunately we will be unable to compensate you or arrange to reinstall any laminate flooring.
  • Remove any items within the loft space, in the areas where the engineers will be working.
  • Keep animals and pets away from the engineers who are working.
  • Be aware of trip hazards, keep your distance from tools, pipework and electrical wiring.
  • Please can we request that you are polite and courteous to the installation team at all times.

What can you expect during the installation?

  • We will require a minimum of 3 days to install your heating system.
  • We will provide dust protection to your floors and wear overshoes at all times.
  • In most instances we will need to lift back your 1st floor carpets.
  • We will need to lift floorboards on the 1st floor to access pipework.
  • We will fit the boiler in the most suitable position, keeping pipe runs to a minimum.
  • We may remove the existing hot water cylinder and water tank and replace with new.
  • We may need to replace your existing oil tank and oil tank base. This may involve digging trenches in your garden. We will do our best to reinstate areas of garden which may be damaged but it may not be possible to leave grass areas as we found them.
  • We do not generally box in exposed pipework as we may need to access this pipework in future.

What about decoration and carpets?

  • Unfortunately we cannot be held responsible for renewing carpets if they are in disrepair prior to removal. We will not pay for a professional carpet fitting service to replace your carpets but will endeavour to put them back as best as we can.
  • There will be areas of decoration that will be disturbed during the works. We will attempt to keep this to a minimum by oversizing radiators wherever possible. Unfortunately we will not provide compensation for any damage to decoration as a result of necessary installation work

What can I expect after the installation is complete?

  • An engineer will provide a full demonstration of how to operate the new system.
  • We will provide you with a simple instruction guide to your new heating system.
  • We will carry out a post inspection of the new installation. This will be carried out either by the installation company or an Officer from STAR Housing. It is important that we check your new install and would be grateful if you could allow access.
  • We will provide you with a telephone number should you require further support in using your system.

You may be asked for your feedback in a telephone customer satisfaction survey, during the quick survey you will be asked to make comments about your experience during the installation. This feedback is vital for us to help us improve our service to you.
