A community room in Chirk Bank has had a new front door thanks to a welcome grant from Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing’s (STAR Housing) Community Chest fund.

Chirk Bank Community Group applied for the grant last year to replace the old door which was letting in wind and rain.

They were subsequently awarded £500 which was put towards buying and fitting the door.

The building is over 100 years old and is well used by the whole community.

Angela Bright, Chair of Chirk Bank Community Group, said:

“We are so pleased that we were given this money which has enabled us to buy and install this new door.

“Made of oak, it’s in keeping with its surroundings as the community room is within the World Heritage zone.

“STAR Housing do lots of really good work and we are so grateful as this isn’t the first time we’ve received funding – we’ve also been able to install secondary glazing at Weston Rhyn Village Hall with help from the fund.

“The door will help to keep the well-used community room an awful lot warmer.”

Chirk Bank Community Group recently held a coffee morning to thank those who had contributed to the door.

Angela added:

“I think it’s important to thank people for awarding funding for this important project, as without this the room just wouldn’t be fit for purpose.”
